The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey (USTS) is the largest survey examining the experiences of Transgender people in the United States, focusing on violence, economic hardship, mental health, discrimination and more. 

The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) is the nation’s leading social justice policy advocacy organization devoted to ending discrimination and violence against Transgender people. NCTE works by educating the public and by influencing local, state, and federal policymakers to change policies and laws to improve the lives of Transgender people.

Glaad upholds that truth and denounces the ongoing anti-Transgender rhetoric and efforts witnessed in various industries, especially for Trans women and girls.

The Number of Nonbinary LGBTQ Adults in the U.S.

These two population-based surveys of LGBQ and Transgender people in the U.S., examines the demographics and characteristics of LGBTQ adults, ages 18-60, who identify as nonbinary.

About 11% of the LGBTQ adults identify as nonbinary in terms of their gender. While nonbinary-identified people are among both cisgender and Transgender LGBTQ populations, they make up a larger proportion of the Transgender population than of the cisgender LGBQ adult population.

Racial Differences Among LGBT Adults in the U.S. 

This study examines whether adult LGBTQ people of color differ from White LGBTQ people in several areas of health and socioeconomic well-being. 

This final report in the series, LGBT Well-Being at the Intersection of Race, uses data from the 2012-2017 Gallup Survey and the Generations/Transpop studies to assess whether LGBT people of color (POC) differ from White LGBT people on several areas of health and socioeconomic well-being. We find that more LGBT people of color report economic instability compared to White LGBT people on many indicators.

Fatal violence against our community 

Ending this epidemic against Transgender and gender nonconforming people requires addressing and eliminating anti-Transgender stigma and discrimination across all facets of society and embracing people of all genders for who they are. 

As of November 20, 2020, Transgender Day of Remembrance, at least 37 Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming people were victims of fatal violence — more than the Human Rights Campaign has recorded in any other year. This grim milestone proves what we have long known: this violence is an epidemic.
